In the world of shipping, there are at least 25 types of ships. There are small ships, to giant ships. Well, here are 5 types of ships that often sail in Indonesian waters.

1. Ro-Ro Ferry

These ships are often found in ferry ports in Indonesia, for example, Merak-Bakauheni and Banyuwangi-Gilimanuk. This ferry is designed to carry passengers from a vehicle without a pulley so it is called Roll on-Roll (ro-ro).

Well, this ship has a ramp door that serves as a liaison between the ship and the floating dock. This ship is designed gently so that vehicles can easily get in and out when the ship is leaning in the port.

2. Container Ship

Container Ship is a special vessel for transporting standard-sized containers. The container is a device for transporting goods. This ship has cavities (cells) to store containers. To quickly raise the container onto the ship, it is customary to use a special crane. These cranes are available at the container terminal dock and some are located on the hull.

3. Tankers

This ship is specially designed because it is used to carry oil and similar cargo. This type of ship includes chemical tankers and LNG (Liquefied natural gas) transport. Well, large tankers, are called supertankers. This supertanker is the largest tanker in the world. This supertanker is known as Knock Nevis.

4. Tugboats

A tugboat is a ship designed to be capable of maneuvers such as pulling or pushing other ships in ports, high seas, or rivers. This ship is very useful for pulling barges, damaged ships, and other heavy equipment.

Tugboats have more power than their size. The tugboats used on the high seas are very powerful.

5. Barge

Barges are often found on major rivers in Indonesia. This ship was made for the needs of river and canal transportation with cargo such as coal and wood. Some models of barges are not propelled, so they must be pulled by tugboats or pushed by rowboats.
