Past Future Continuous Tense

Past future continuous tense (past future progressive tense) adalah tense yang digunakan untuk menyatakan apa yang sedang dilakukan di masa depan ketika berada di masa lalu. Seperti future continuous tense, bentuk ini digunakan untuk membuat rencana atau prediksi serta cenderung menyebutkan waktu yang spesifik.

Rumus

Positive (Verbal): S + would + be + Ving + complement
Positive (Nominal): S + would + be + being + Adj/noun/adverb
Negative (Verbal): S + would + not + be + Ving + complement
Negative (Nominal): S + would + not + be + being + Adj/noun/adverb
Interrogative (Verbal): Would + S + be + Ving + complement?
Interrogative (Nominal): Would + S + be + being + Adj/noun/adverb?

Notes:

  • Complement –> pelengkap kalimat seperti keterangan atau dapat berupa kata lain.
  • Ada kata kerja yang tidak bisa digunakan di tense ini yaitu stative verb.

Contoh:

  • Aria would be preparing for his final examination.
  • If I phoned her at 9 p.m. last night, would she be sleeping?
  • I would not be reading any book when Wira invited me to celebrate his birthday party.

Penggunaan Past Future Continuous Tense

Membicarakan aksi yang direncanakan akan sedang berlangsung di masa lalu.

  • Adian told me that he would be going to Indra’s house at 10 o’clock (Adian mengatakan pada saya bahwa dia akan sedang pergi ke rumah indra pukul 10).
  • I wouldn’t be going anywhere when Wira visited me at 9 o’clock this morning (Saya tidak akan sedang pergi kemana-mana ketika Wira menengok saya pukul 9 pagi ini).
  • Would you be having breakfast at 7 o’clock yesterday if you had at least 2 slices of bread? (Apakah kamu akan sedang sarapan pada pukul 7 kemarin jika kamu sedang memiliki 2 potong roti?)

Membicarakan aksi yang diprediksi akan sedang berlangsung di masa lalu.

  • She thought the snow would be falling hard by this time yesterday (Dia berpikir bahwa salju akan sedang turun deras pada saat ini kemarin).
  • I had a feeling that the blizzard wouldn’t be stopping at 7 o’clock last week (Saya memiliki perasaan bahwa badai salju tidak akan berhenti pukul 7 minggu kemarin).
